I have a Masters in Computer Science from Monterrey Tech. I've been coding for 10 years in several languages, and have worked on creating payphone protocols for TELMEX to clinical trial portals for Sanofi-Aventis. I quit my job in 2008 to create my own startup, meetforeal, because I was completely captivated by the problem of how you meet interesting people, face to face.

My second start up, Pass and Poll, was

I am one of the founding members of 091Labs hackerspace, in Galway Ireland.

I grew up in Mexico City and the US, but I had travelled all over earth by age 19, and India was a big shock.

  • Worked in New Jersey for 7 consecutive summers (aged 17-23)
  • Studied in Mexico City (ITESM), London (Brunel), and in (IHK), Denmark stuff relating Mobile communications to IT systems strategy
  • Worked and lived in Mexico; the Netherlands and in Ireland

I speak 3 languages fluently, I run 40-50km per week, I also really enjoy talking to strangers and hacking things.

I love talking about what I've learned:

eComm, San Francisco (June '11): "Starfish Networks and Hackerspaces"
27c3, Berlin (2010): "Things I learned by starting 091labs Hackerspace" video slides
Business of Software, Boston (October '10), Lightning Talk: "Technology influences how we interact: Things to think about to design it better" slides
IgniteDublin, Ireland (2009): "The art of socialization" video slides
Bizcamp, Dublin, Ireland (2009): "How to create value with all of your brain" video slides

Fun projects I coded

Matching and connecting people at Ignite events Ignite 1 Ignite 2

Papers I published:

Co-Founder: Product designer, coder and thinker. Tweets from @meetforeal and more info here.

I love coding with Processing and Objective-C, and designing for web. I invent ways for people to have more interesting conversations with one other, like with my previous startups meetforeal, and Pass and Poll.

I have a 1st class honours B.Eng degree in Biomedical Engineering. I won a scholarship to high school in South Africa and to University in Ireland as a result of graduating in the top 95% of the country. I have worked as an English Teacher in Mexico, and a Market Development Engineer for a Biomedical Company but quit to start meetforeal.com.

I love my hackerspace, 091Labs, in Galway. I teach this awesome iPhone Development Workshop and organize cool events in the space.

I love talking about what I've learned:

eComm, San Francisco (June '11): "Bringing Virtual Social Objects into our Physical World"
27C3, Berlin (December '10): "Designing electronics as social objects" slides
Business of Software, Boston (October '10), Lightning Talk: "Technology influences how we interact: Things to think about to design it better" slides
IgniteGalway, Galway, Ireland (September '10): "Digesting Sugar" video slides
Ixda Dublin, Ireland (October '10): "Does browsing the web ever make you feel like shit?" video slides
Bizcamp, Dublin, Ireland (May '10): "Are we creating fast food for the brain? How meta design can cure digital obesity" video slides
IgniteDublin, Dublin, Ireland (Feb '10): "Don't give a damn about my reputation" video slides

I've lived in lots of places including Johannesburg, Munich, Eindhoven, Queretaro, Galway, Zambia and New York.

When I'm not designing, programming, speaking at events or organizing events, I dip into dj-ing, meditating and vegan baking.
